With the internet half an hour's walk away, it is often too difficult to get after a day on the site. So apologies for the erratic communication, but here is a description of what we have been doing ...
Last year four duplexes were started and are almost finished. Some of the team have spent time sanding plaster, fitting kitchens and doing door frames. I love to see the ownership of the still to be completed homes - flowers by the door and the family name placed there already.
Most of my time has been spent tying reinforced steel bars (rebar) at 25 cm intervals. From what I understand the site was originally a swamp so the slabs for the houses are very, very, strong ... fill, concrete, two layers of the rebar and more concrete. I must admit I feel like the Rebar Queen! I suffered 'rebar-wrist' on the third day but bought some soothing balm at the local market and have been fine since. We start at 8 o'clock and have a very satisfying day in the open air.
Although he is doing some rebar here, John had mostly been working on the framework for the slab and the concreting. We have done slabs for two duplexes and they are strong enough to hold a ten storey building!
The surroundings are quite rural ...
and horses and carts are a common sight.
Sorry to rush but I've got to go.
Kathy and John

Great to see photos! We start back Monday - fun, fun, fun! We'll be thinking of you and trying to remember that even though we remain stuck here, we are also trying to build something ...
